Preparing for Move-out

Get ready for move-out day

The move-out deadline for the 2025–26 academic year is Sunday, May 10 by noon. Please take a moment to follow these steps for a successful move-out.

Every community will host a Move-out Expectations meeting. Times and locations will be posted on your RA’s move-out bulletin board. If you can’t attend your RA’s meeting, you can join another meeting in your community.

At the meeting, you’ll receive additional information about:

  • How and when to schedule your final move-out inspection
  • Preparing your room or apartment for departure
  • Working with your roommates to complete the Roommate Move-out Agreement, which covers move-out plans, cleaning duties, and who’s responsible for any damages
  • What to expect during your final move-out inspection
  • End-of-semester de-stress programs

Final move-out inspections should be scheduled for the date and time you plan to leave campus for the final time. The scheduler opens on April 22 and is available in the Housing Portal.

If you plan to depart before May 4, please visit your building’s community desk staff for assistance.

Before your final move-out inspection, your room or apartment must be left in good condition. Planning ahead and taking extra time to clean can help you avoid charges.

This means:

  • Cleaning all areas, including drawers, closets, floors, appliances, and in-suite bathrooms
  • Removing all personal belongings
  • Taking out trash and properly disposing of or donating unwanted items
  • Leaving 3M hooks and strips on the wall for professional removal

Common end-of-the-year charges include:

  • Trash or abandoned item removal
  • Extra cleaning beyond standard expectations
  • Damaged, heavily stained, or missing furniture
  • Excessive 3M hook or LED light removal
  • Altered or damaged smoke/fire safety equipment

For the full list of possible charges, please review our Residential Policies.

If you have roommates, this is a great time to revisit the Roommate Move-out Agreement to divide cleaning responsibilities and determine responsibility for shared items and any damages.

Cleaning supplies and carts will be available at community desks starting mid-March. If anything in your space needs maintenance attention, be sure to submit a work order before you leave.

  • Take items that can be donated to the designated location in your community.
  • Trash and things that can’t be donated should be taken directly to the dumpster
  • Update your default shipping address with online vendors and the campus
  • Do a final check of drawers, cabinets, fridges, and under the bed for missed items
  • Riverwalk residents, check your mailbox for mail

When it’s time, report to your community desk for your scheduled final move-out inspection.

Extensions and summer housing

If you need to stay past May 10 at noon, submit an Extension Request form in the Housing Portal as soon as possible. Extensions are only granted for extenuating circumstances and must be requested by April 20.

If you have a summer contract, you do not need to request an extension. Check your email for details about your transfer date and moving instructions.

Graduating? Check your inbox for our graduation confirmation email for details on
graduation-related extension requests. The deadline to submit these requests is April 11.

All residents should submit a change of address form before leaving campus.

If you are considering living on campus this summer, we have housing available in the Riverwalk Apartments community.

Applications are available March 9 – April 9 in the Housing Portal.
